Student and Alumni Profiles

Esther Townshend - current BCom student

Esther Townshend,

Commercial Officer, Siemens, Melbourne
Bachelor of Commerce / U21 Certificate in Global Issues 2006

“The flexibility of the Bachelor of Commerce structure was great as it meant that I could explore subjects from different departments and even faculties that interested me. When I entered the course, I was unsure what specialisation most interested me, so the opportunity to ‘sample’ different aspects of the commerce stream was very useful! After taking a subject with the Faculty of Arts, I realised I thoroughly enjoyed Arts and enrolled in the Universitas 21 Certificate in Global Issues. This was a fantastic opportunity not only to broaden my knowledge of international issues but also to interact with distance ‘classmates’ in foreign universities.

As part of my Commerce degree, I participated in the Management Practicum, which gave me a wonderful insight into the real workings of business. As part of a team, I acted as a consultant to BHP Billiton, interacting with senior management and delivering a business report on a strategic issue the company was facing.”
