Concurrent Diploma
A concurrent diploma enables students to gain a diploma in another area of study while completing their undergraduate degree.
Undergraduates will have access to a range of diplomas that may be completed concurrently with a bachelor degree. Students can complete an in-depth sequence of study in another discipline. The diploma normally consists of a sequence of first, second and third year subjects in a relevant area of study.
In 2009, the following diplomas are available:
- Diploma in Informatics
- Diploma in Mathematical Sciences
- Diploma in Languages
- Diploma in Music (Practical)
Diploma in Informatics
The Diploma in Informatics consists of four compulsory subjects (Informatics 1:Practical Computing; Informatics 2:People, Data and the Web; Informatics 3: Content Management; and Informatics 6: eResearch Project) and four electives. Two further Informatics subjects, Informatics 4: Web Applications and Informatics 5: Applied Analytics, are available as electives; these two 300-level subjects have the single prerequisite of Informatics 3: Content Management and provide a straightforward pathway to the 'minimum of 37.5 points of 300-level study in Informatics' completion requirement of the Diploma.

Diploma in Mathematical Sciences*
The Diploma in Mathematical Sciences is a new program that will commence in 2009. Within the Diploma, students will complete the requirements of one specialisation of the Mathematics and Statistics major from the bachelor of Science. Students who take appropriate mathematics or statistics subjects within the breadth component of their bachelor degree will be eligible to complete the diploma by taking an extra 50 points (four subjects) in Mathematics and Statistics in addition to the 300 points needed for your bachelor degree.
In some circumstances it may be possible to complete a bachelor degree and the diploma within three years.

Diploma in Languages
The Diploma in Languages enables students to gain an undergraduate diploma in a single language in an integrated sequence. The concurrent diploma may be awarded provided students complete 50 points of subjects in addition to the 300 points required for the New Generation degrees. Where possible, these diplomas can be completed within three years. Students enrolling in a concurrent Diploma in Languages may be able to complete the final 50 points HECS-free. The following languages are available for study: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish.

Diploma in Music (Practical)
The Diploma in Music (Practical) provides students with the opportunity to pursue practical music study, but without committing to professional music training. The diploma is structured around a three-year sequence of practical study, to which students add a suite of six Music Skills electives and two advanced electives. The practical subjects involve weekly one-to-one tuition and instrumental/vocal master classes, as well as the opportunity to perform in regular concert classes.
