Commerce Opportunity Bursary
Education is the greatest opportunity
Available through the generosity of an alumni donor, the Commerce Opportunity Bursaries will be offered to two high achieving students who commence the Bachelor of Commerce in 2010, who are financially, socially or educationally disadvantaged.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Commerce Opportunity Bursary you must:
- Be an Australian Citizen, residing in Victoria; and
- Apply to the Bachelor of Commerce through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC); and
- Meet the criteria to be eligible under the Access Melbourne scheme
Application
Candidates are required to apply to the Bachelor of Commerce through VTAC, submitting a Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) application, providing relevant documentation and written statements as required.
Candidates must apply under the Melbourne Access category of:
- Hardship caused by socio-economic circumstances.
Candidates may also be considered under the other equity categories of:
- Completed school in a rural or isolated area; or
- Difficult family circumstances; or
- From an under-represented school; or
- Non-English speaking background; or
- Recognition as an Indigenous Australian; or
- Refugee Status.
Selection is based on documented disadvantage associated with the categories listed above, and academic merit. The selection committee’s decision is based on information provided by VTAC at the time of selection. (Please note that this means any change of preference information will not be considered.)
The value of each Commerce Opportunity Bursary in 2010 is $15,000 per annum for three years. It is a condition of the award that a recipient must undertake full-time study, completing the Bachelor of Commerce in the normal three year period. The award cannot be deferred.
