Honours in Accounting and Business Information Systems
Overview
Honours in the Department of Accounting and Business Information Systems is taught by internationally renowned staff who provide a stimulating environment for students wishing to pursue cutting-edge research.
The content and delivery of the honours program is designed to equip you with frameworks for systematic enquiry; technical and research skills; and communication and presentation skills.
High profile firms - including major corporations, consulting and accounting firms - regularly seek to employ our honours graduates. In addition to the opportunities available in these sectors, recent graduates have gone on to pursue further academic studies including PhD and Master of Business Administration degrees either at the University of Melbourne or other leading domestic and international business schools.
Program structure
Students are required to complete the equivalent of eight subjects (100 points) in fourth year honours. Students must take the following subjects:
plus two or more of the following four subjects:
- 306-461 Studies in Corporate Reporting
- 306-462 Studies in Management Accounting
- 306-464 Studies in Business Information Systems
- 306-465 Studies in Audit and Assurance Services
The remaining subjects must be approved by the Head of Department of Accounting and Business Information Systems to meet the overall load of 100 points.

The Department of Accounting and Business Information Systems also awards scholarships to high-achieving students who have been accepted into the Honours program. These are listed below.
Department Honours scholarship
To be eligible, students must be commencing a BCom(Hons) in the Department of Accounting and Business Information Systems and undertaking the Research Essay in Accounting. Each scholarship is worth $5,000 if matched with an Honours Scholarship from the Faculty, and valued at $10,000 if awarded to a student without any other matching source/s of funding.
Students are considered on the basis of academic merit. Please download and complete the 2010 application form (PDF 116kb) and submit by the last Friday in November to: Honours Coordinator, Department of Accounting and Business Information Systems.
