Honours in Actuarial Studies
Overview
With honours, you will advance your knowledge of actuarial studies and develop your research and communication skills through either a research essay or a set of research projects. The honours year also fulfils all the requirements for Associateship of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.
In this fourth year of study you will take advanced coursework in the areas of risk theory and financial mathematics. You will also develop your communication skills by producing some research into an emerging area of actuarial science.
Employers of actuarial graduates are increasingly interested in students who can demonstrate an ability to learn, to adapt to changing situations and to work well within a team. These skills are all honed during the honours year, improving your prospects and facilitating career advancement.
Program structure
Students are required to successfully complete the equivalent of eight subjects (100 points) in fourth year honours, and must complete the following subjects:
- One of 300-400 Actuarial Studies Research Essay and 300-409 Actuarial Studies Projects
- 37.5 points of level-4 actuarial studies subjects
- 12.5 points of level-4 subjects taught by the Faculty of Economics and Commerce
- 25 points of approved level-3 or level-4 subjects taught within or outside the Faculty of Economics and Commerce
