Honours in Management and Marketing

Overview

The honour year provides an opportunity to develop your research skills and prepare you for a successful career in the public or private sector. Many of our honours students also go on to PhD level.

You may choose to specialise in either or both of management or marketing. Specialist areas covered include: organisational behaviour, international business, marketing and human resource management.

Program structure

Students are required to successfully complete the equivalent of eight subjects (100 points) in the honours year, which must include the following:

The remaining four subjects (totalling 50 points) may be selected from the list of level-4 subjects taught by the Department of Management and Marketing listed below:

Students may also include one level-3 subject taught by the Faculty of Economics and Commerce or other Faculty as approved by the Head of Department.

If you wish to specialise, the honours coordinator can help you customise a program of study in your particular area of interest.

Research essay

All students are required to submit a paper of 10,000 - 12,000 words in length while enrolled for 325-408 Management Research Essay. The paper can have an empirical or theoretical focus.

You will work with a supervisor in the preparation of your research essay. The completed paper is examined by two supervisors from within the Department of Management and Marketing.

Changes in 2010

In 2010 six new honours subjects will be offered, allowing students to specialise in either management or marketing. More details on these subjects will be available soon. The subjects are:
